Women's leather ballet flats

Women's leather ballet flat: softness and flexibility for everyday wear

Leather is the material best suited to ballet flats. Because they are low-cut, with no laces or fastening, ballet flats rely entirely on the quality of their upper: it supports and envelops the foot, taking shape over time. Well-chosen leather relaxes just enough, retains its shape, and eventually feels like a second skin.

At ANDRÉ, a shoemaker since 1896, we select our hides for their suppleness and consistency, then mount them on lasts refined season after season. Discover our full range of women's ballet flats and Mary Janes.

Why choose leather ballet flats?

The benefits of leather: flexibility, breathability, and support

Leather is a living material, and that is precisely what makes it so valuable in a shoe this refined.

  • Flexibility : the upper follows the foot's movements without creating pressure points, helping reduce rubbing along the edge of the vamp.
  • Breathability : leather lets moisture escape, providing real comfort when you wear your ballet flats barefoot or with thin socks.
  • Support : unlike synthetic materials that lose their shape, quality leather retains its structure and keeps the heel in place.
  • Durability : when conditioned regularly, it develops a patina instead of cracking and lasts for several seasons.

Leather, nubuck, or goatskin: our materials

Smooth leather remains the most versatile: easy to care for, it transitions effortlessly from the office to the weekend. Nubuck, sanded to create a velvety feel, adds elegant matte depth to neutral shades, provided you protect it with a waterproofing spray at the start of the season. Goatskin, finally, is our finest and lightest material: immediately supple, it is particularly suitable for sensitive feet or for people who dislike a break-in period. You will find these materials on our flat styles as well as on our heeled ballet flats, as well as our Mary Janes.

Your frequently asked questions about women’s leather ballet flats

How do you care for leather ballet flats?

The most useful step is also the simplest: wipe them with a soft cloth after each wear to remove dust before it becomes embedded. Every three to four weeks, nourish the upper with colorless polish or polish matching the shade, then buff. Let them air-dry, never near a radiator, and insert a shoe tree to preserve their shape. Nubuck requires different care: use a dry brush and waterproofing spray, without polish.

Does leather stretch over time?

Yes, slightly, and that’s good news. A leather ballet flat generally gains half a size in comfort after a few wears, as the upper molds to the instep. That’s why we recommend choosing a snug fit when trying them on rather than one that feels comfortable right away: if they are too loose at first, they will eventually slip at the heel. If the fit remains tight, an adhesive heel grip or thin insole can restore the balance.

What can you wear leather ballet flats with?

With almost anything. Straight-leg jeans and camel leather ballet flats create a polished, effortless look; a flowing dress and a beige pair lengthen the silhouette; a black ballet flat in smooth leather remains the safest choice for the office. Just remember to leave the ankle visible: that’s what gives ballet flats their characteristic lightness.
